All children learn to hold their breath, and generally loose the fear of the water within 8 lessons. Depending on the child's coordination and level of fear is what determines how far they will advance in the package. We strive to make sure that within the initial package children learn to float, jump in and hold their breath as they stroke back to the wall. Safety is always the first concern.
As often as possible, a lot of swim schools do once a week and for a child to learn that is just not consistent enough. I designed my program to be attended 4x a week at minimum, if there after parents wish to continue lessons for further enrichment and development, doing it 1x or 2x a week will be enough to retain the skills developed.
If you are signing up with a special or for the regular package, yes that is the program that you are signing up for. However, outside of that we offer variations of schedules as we understand parents work and at times other activities can conflict. Selected times on Fridays are reserved for students who can only attend classes 1x a week. Weekend classes are always offered throughout the summer and fall.
Yes, beginning June we offer weekend packages, where classes are offered Friday afternoons, Saturday and Sunday. The program is still 10 classes in total but only offered on the weekends.
No, if a child is having a difficult skill day (i.e. jumping in) the lesson might go a minute or two longer, but never more than that. Adult lessons are longer as they incorporate a workout into the class. As always private fitness training is available for adults or preteens joining a swim team but that is tailored to the individual client depending on what their goals are.
Yes! All children benefit from additional practice, often times it takes time for a child to understand that they can swim with anyone around it doesn't have to just be the swim instructor. Even if they are just playing and putting their face in the water that is a successful practice.
Minnow students must wear a reusable swim diaper in order to prevent accidents. No HUGGIES, PAMPERS, etc. allowed as they do not hold fecal matter sufficiently. A warm towel and a snack is always a good idea as children are generally hungry after the class. No eating 2 hrs prior to class, the water activates bowel movements and this can cause some children to develop an upset stomach.
A swimsuit, and a towel is all that is needed. We encourage children to learn to swim without goggles, but if parents wish that they use them, we are more than happy to put them on. If children have long hair we ask that parents please tie it up to prevent it getting in the child's face when swimming. Any sunblock should be applied at home and not at the pool as this would allow it adequate time take effect. Applying sunblock at the pool will make it ineffective as well as it getting into the child's eyes and stinging. Classes are short so we like to minimize any distractions.
No, we believe that swimming is already a difficult skill to master for children. The level of fear that a child can experience e in the water is very real, and as such we believe that individual attention is the best practice to excel. However for teenagers and adults who sign up seeking to be trained and already can swim we do teach in groups of 3max.
